As a long time Baldacci fan, I was curious how he would do in the fantasy genre. His first effort, The Finisher, had an uneven writing style, but an interesting story. The Keeper had a more developed writing style, but the storyline was not as enjoyable to me.I suppose that I can hardly be considered to be the target audience since I'm on the other end of the age scale, but I am an avid fantasy reader. Perhaps younger readers may enjoy the simpler, more direct storyline more.
Vega Jane and her companions traverse the dreaded Quag in this second book of Baldacci’s famed fantasy series. She’ll need all her magical powers to survive the different levels. Each of the five circles comes with its own dangers. Challenged at every corner, Vega must rely on her own wits and instincts plus the allies she meets along the way. Will she and her best friend Delph defeat the creatures that live in the wilderness? Or will they be lost in the Quag forever? This action-packed tale will have readers rapidly turning pages and eager for the sequel. If you like quest stories and monsters, this one is for you.
I enjoyed book 1 and really looked forward to book 2. I have to admit some disappointment as it just seemed a stream of perils that I knew the main protagonists would survive. Maybe that was the purpose, at some point we just need to focus on survival and beating the odds with thought and action.I, as others noted, was disappointed in the ending; the first book set my taste for more, hence my anxiousness for book 2. This wasn't the case at the end of The Keeper.
I have been a Baldacci fan from the first Camel Club, but not this junk! Have all of his books. I purchase preorder and hold them to read on camping trips. What a waste of money this series was. He sold out to sci-fi.
Once Gain, David Baldacci has a winner! As entertaining as the last and with an ending that send you out to but the next book. These are great stories, surely to keep your attention for some time. I can't remember being a teenager, but I will recommend these books to my grandchildren.
A fantasy that reminds me of a mix of "Harry Potter" and "Hobbit." Probably intended for Young Adult genre but thoroughly enjoyed by a 76 year old. Of course, you should read "Finisher" first to have a clue what's going on in "The Keeper."David Baldacci writes terrific mysteries, but the Vega Jane series shows an entirely different imagination, as well as senses of humor and of the macabre. Despite complexities the books are easy to read and very fast paced. You won't be bored.
I've read and enjoyed all of David Baldacci's books. My mistake was that I automatically order all his books in advance, thereby getting stuck with the "Finisher" and "The Keeper". I read 150 novels a year, but never fantasy books. Out of respect for the author, I read both books. Did I enjoy them, no! I'll be more careful in the future, and will take David Baldacci off my automatically order list.
Another outstanding read by David Baldacci. He is becoming one of my favorite authors. As I have said before, this series is way out of David's previous books. It took me a while tofigure out what some of the characters were about, but eventually I began to understand theirroles in the entire series of events.Very much like Stephen King's series in which he takes us in a nether world experience,The difference is I never could understand King's points. I do understand David's.I look forward to the next installment.
This Vega Jane book 2 is an entertaining voyage through mysteious lands.Baldachin's character development is wonderful and it is an easy read. There are numerous curve balls thrown at you on the voyage however they are tied together nicely.I very much enjoyed Vega Jane and her bravery youthful initiative to tackle various challenges. The ending was a tad disappointing but we can see what Baldacci does as a follow up.
