This was fun to read, the writing was great, and the editing was excellent. I only have it a 4 because there ending felt rushed and even with a HEA i didn't feel satisfied.
Parenting a child comes with challenges at the best of times, but when one voluntarily takes on the role of permanent caregiver to a child from an abusive background, you have to have the patience of Job and the courage of a fire fighter. Skylar was terrified that her new found haven of peace would be ripped away from her and does everything in her power to ensure that she holds onto the most precious person in her life. If only those pesky men who find her new Mom attractive would keep out of the way. Abby is exhausted from the constant need to reassure Skylar. Taking her from wild child to a well integrated human being adds to the pressure. As any mother knows, our best is never enough and Abby questions her motives and her eligibility as a mother from every angle, even to the point of giving up her own hopes and dreams to ensure Skylar’s happiness. Noah’s reappearance in her life after so many years brings a new spark of hope and excitement to Abby’s life, but Skylar’s reaction to him is like having a bucket of iced water douse the flames. Fortunately, Noah isn’t easily put off, and he recognises that if he wants Abby as first prize, he will have to win Skylar over first. This well written story highlights the difficulties that come with parenting children you have not given birth to, whether through adoption, marriage or foster care. Understanding the inner workings of child’s mind can be exhausting, but the prize is well worth fighting for. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Skylah had a difficult childhood, but when she was adopted by Abby, her world changed. Life became much brighter. However, there was always the fear that her new mom would abandon her. This meant that she did not want Abby to be involved with anyone. When Abby traveled to the US for an extended visit, she saw her teenage crush again, and she found that the attraction she had for him did not die. It turns out that Abby and Noah had a crush on each other, but they never talked about it.Skylah has a difficult time developing trust, and she is terrified that Abby will leave her. Abby wants to be the best possible mom, and she is willing to make a sacrifice and leave Noah to make Skylah happy. When I read that, I thought that surely, Abby can find a way to make everyone happy, including herself. Even though Skylah had a difficult childhood, she must learn to develop trust, not an easy prospect. However, if Abby makes a sacrifice that makes her miserable, how will that affect her relationship with her daughter? What choice does she make in the end? Is there hope for Abby and Noah? This is a heartwarming story. it is also heartbreaking to read about a child neglected by her parents. It is a sad reality that many children experience every day. May they all find an Abby.
Abby has adopted 10yo Skylah. Skylah needs a lot of reassuarance; the first 8 years of her life have damaged her deeply. Abby and Skylah move from Australia to America for Abby’s temporary job. Abby has always had a crush on Noah. But Sky doesn’t want anyone to come between them. So she wants to prevent anyone from coming close to Abby. Skylah speaks her mind. She’s quite rude to Noah at first. It was easy-to-read. Dual POV between Abby and Noah, not counting the prolgue and sort-of-epilogue from Skylah’s. This story didn’t fit the brief of “Mommy’s Little Matchmaker†perfectly. Skylah does everything in her power to separate Abby and Noah, afraid that he will come between her and her Mom. But that didn’t really matter. It was a sweet story. I liked it!I would have liked Abby and Noah to have a little more alone time though, without Skylah. Now I didn’t feel their connection, their spark 100%. Things were a little too fast for my liking. I would have liked more development of the characters of Abby and especially Noah, but since it is a novella, it was bound to be quicker. A fast read, nice and pleasant.
Another wonderful read in this series of books. Adoption is so special and close to my heart as I have an adopted niece. Abby adopts Skylah and always tells her she will be the most important person in her life. Living and working in Australia is nice but she gets an opportunity to return to her hometown to help her friend Emma with her business. Doesn’t hurt either that her old crush, Noah, is there also. Skylah doesn’t want anyone coming between her and her mom. Noah had never shown interest in Abby but things are different now. He also takes to Skylah and wants to teach her new things. Skylah is not too keen on him liking her mom so uses her antics to keep them apart. Skylah saw her mom and Noah kiss and thought that meant her mom would abandon her. So far from the truth. Noah loves her and loves her mom. Can Skylah accept Noah’s love and the fact that he wants them to be a family? You will have to read this sweet story which I highly recommend to everyone. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Joanne Dannon writes a beautiful, poignant story in this third book of the Mommy's Little Matchmaker series. Having spent my life's work with many, many unwanted children, this story of ten year old Sky reached deep down into my core. Abby has given up all personal relationships to prove to her adopted daughter that she will always come first in her life. I love the way Ms. Dannon develops the friendship between Noah and Sky. Despite Sky's "cheekiness," he realizes what a smart, yet frightened little girl she is just so full of fear of abandonment. Joanne deliberately takes her time in building the romance between Abby and Noah so by the end of the book, the reader is cheering for the three of them to be a family. I just LOVED it!!! This author also did a great job tying this book to the characters from the first two books of the series. Mommy Loves the IT Guy is another beautiful gem suitable for all readers. I highly recommend it and this entire series!
